By the end of this module you should be able to:
- Define SST
- Define SD
- Understand standardised and operator-specific usage
Slice/Service Type
The SST indicates the expected behaviour or broad service family of a slice. Standard values have historically been associated with categories such as enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-reliable low-latency communications and massive IoT.
Slice Differentiator
The SD is optional and can distinguish slices with the same SST. An operator might use it to separate customers, industries, regions or service variants.
Do not read too much into the number
The identifier is a label used within selection and configuration. The actual service depends on policy, network design and contractual commitments.
Knowledge check
What is the main purpose of the SD?
