The identifier
S-NSSAI means Single Network Slice Selection Assistance Information. It identifies a slice choice using a Slice/Service Type and, optionally, a Slice Differentiator.
Why two parts
The SST indicates the broad service category. The optional SD allows an operator to distinguish multiple slices that share the same SST, such as separate enterprise services.
What it does not do
An S-NSSAI helps selection and identification. It does not itself specify latency, guaranteed bandwidth, coverage or security. Those outcomes depend on configuration, QoS, resources and operations.
