Requested information
A compatible device can include requested NSSAI information during registration. This tells the network which slice or slices it would like to use, subject to configuration and operator policy.
Network authorisation
The network checks subscription data, serving-area availability and operator policy. It can return allowed slice information, reject unavailable choices or map between home and serving-network identifiers in roaming scenarios.
The practical chain
Chipset support, modem firmware, operating system controls, SIM or eSIM subscription data and network configuration must align. A modem data sheet mentioning slicing does not prove that a customer can buy a usable sliced service.
