End-to-end slicing

How radio, transport, Core, edge and application layers combine into one service.

Radio domain

The RAN controls access to scarce radio resources. Slice-aware admission, scheduling and QoS policy can influence how users and flows are treated, but spectrum remains subject to propagation, interference and congestion.

Transport and Core

Traffic must cross backhaul and transport networks before reaching Core functions and applications. Virtual paths, traffic engineering and capacity controls may be needed to preserve the intended service characteristics.

Edge and application

A low-latency slice is of limited value if traffic is routed to a distant application. Local UPFs and edge applications can shorten the path, while application integration and assurance complete the service.
