Foundation course ยท Module 19 of 20

Assurance and SLAs

How performance objectives are measured, monitored and turned into credible commitments.

Course position: 19 of 20

By the end of this module you should be able to:
  • Separate design target from SLA
  • Understand observability
  • Recognise the need for end-to-end metrics

Targets versus guarantees

A standards-defined service type or 5QI does not automatically create a contractual guarantee. An SLA must define the metric, measurement point, time window, exclusions and remedy.

End-to-end observability

Operators need telemetry across RAN, transport, Core, edge and service platforms. Without correlated data, it is difficult to prove why performance changed.

Enterprise evidence

Customers may need dashboards, APIs, reports and alarms showing availability, latency, packet loss, throughput or device registration state. Assurance is part of the product, not an afterthought.

Knowledge check

What turns a performance aim into an SLA?
