Policy, charging and service control

How operators turn technical capabilities into controllable products.

Course position: 17 of 20

By the end of this module you should be able to:
  • Understand policy control
  • See how charging can differ
  • Connect network behaviour to commercial products

Policy control

The PCF can provide policy decisions affecting session and QoS behaviour. Policy can consider subscription, application information, location, service state and operator rules.

Charging

Different slices or services may be charged by subscription, usage, service level, device count, location or enterprise contract. Charging systems must understand the service context.

Productisation

Technical capability becomes useful only when ordering, provisioning, support, assurance and billing processes can deliver it repeatedly.

Knowledge check

Why is productisation important?
