What the SCP does

The SCP can support indirect communication between network functions, including routing, load distribution, discovery assistance and resilience behaviour.

Why it exists

As a Core grows into many distributed service instances, a communication proxy can reduce point-to-point complexity and centralise some service-mesh behaviours.

Slicing relevance

Slice-aware routing and function selection can be supported without requiring every consumer to manage all topology and discovery logic itself.

Standards note: this page is an explanatory summary. Precise procedures, services and information elements are defined in the applicable 3GPP specifications.
