What the NEF does

The NEF provides controlled exposure of network capabilities, events and information. It mediates between external applications and internal network functions.

Why exposure matters

Enterprise and application platforms may need to request approved treatment, subscribe to events or obtain network information without direct access to internal Core interfaces.

Commercial relevance

Network exposure can turn network behaviour into programmable products, but APIs require authentication, authorisation, policy, charging and operational support.

Standards note: this page is an explanatory summary. Precise procedures, services and information elements are defined in the applicable 3GPP specifications.
